Wayne Rooney produced one of the greatest performances of his career yesterday, scoring four goals in a match for the first time as Manchester United went back to the top of the Premier League with a 4-0 victory over Hull City at Old Trafford.

Rooney, 24, became the first United player to score four in a game since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer against Everton in December 1999 and his haul yesterday put United two points clear of Chelsea.

Chelsea has two games in hand though.
